Mothers Day Poem

You filled my days with rainbow lights, fairytales and sweet dream nights, A kiss to wipe away my tears, gingerbread to ease my fears. You gave the gift of life to me and then in love, you set me free. I thank you for your tender care, for deep warm hugs and being there. I hope that when you think of me. A part of you you’ll always see.

Looking Back At February…

February brought the residents here at The Terrace at Woodland a variety of activities. We had a variety of entertainers who shared their talents with us such as… Ron Miner, Rick & Brian, Vince, and also Kim that played the piano for the residents during lunch. Thank you all so much! We all enjoyed it!

St. Patricks Day History

March 17th is believed to be the date of St. Patrick’s death in 461 A.D. (varies depending on the source). He was kidnapped and taken to Ireland as a slave. After six years, he escaped to France, where he studied at a monastery. He became a priest then bishop, and in 432, Pope Celestine sent him to Ireland, where for more than 30 years he converted people to Christianity. He is said to have used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. Driving the snakes out of Ireland is actually a metaphor, meaning that he drove the religion of the Druids out of Ireland, replacing it with Christianity.

St. Patricks Day Poem

St. Patrick’s Day is here, you see.
We’ll pick some shamrocks, one, two, three. We’ll count the leaves and look them over and maybe find a four-leafed clover. I’ll sew green buttons on my vest,
Green for St. Patrick is the best. I’ll wear a green hat, very high and dance a jig – at least I’ll try!

MEMORY CARE NEWS…

Our Memory Care unit has been looking great every month! All the creativity is paying off! Last month the residents participated in a variety of activities, readings and cooking groups. The residents and staff have now taken down the Valentine art and began creating and displaying for St. Patrick’s Day.

MEMORY CARE NEWS…

Our Memory Care residents tried a few new cooking recipes last month. Very tasty! Thanks staff for all your assistance. Three new programs have been added. “Love songs word game, discussion questions & our mind joggers trivia. They also enjoyed making a variety of arts & crafts for Valentines Day. They also baked Valentine cupcakes with hearts on them.

Marti Gras Day – February 21, 2012

The celebration of Mardi Gras, French words that mean “Fat Tuesday,” began during Medieval times in Europe. This French-Catholic tradition came to America with Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne and his brother, Pierre, when the French settled in Louisiana. Today, the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans is the largest in the U.S. The Carnival season begins on Epiphany or Twelfth Day, January 6th, the time when the three Wise Men visited baby Jesus. This is a time of feasting & celebration.

Mardi Gras is the last day of Carnival, and it is the last day of feasting. The next day, Ash Wednesday, is the beginning of the period of Lent which among Catholic and some Christian churches is a period of 40 days for fasting & penance to prepare for the celebration of Easter. Marti Gras is celebrated in New Orleans by society balls & parades. Men’s societies, called “krewes,’ organize elaborate costume balls, build floats and parade in costume. Beads & coin-like aluminium pieces are thrown from the parade floats to the spectators. The colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green & gold. Purple represents justice, green represents faith and gold represents power.

December brought the residents here at The Terrace at Woodland a variety of activities. We put up our tree & decked the halls! Many residents enjoyed baking holiday cookies. We had a variety of entertainers who shared their talents with us such as…Vince, Ron Miner & Brian Nelson. Residents also enjoyed the Christmas Caroling groups & concerts that came to sing for us. We would like to send a “Thank You” out to each & everyone of them.

The New Year

Let’s all hear it for the new year where we can all stand up and cheer. The new year brings resolutions that they try to adhere to, because this is the right thing to do! May the new year bring everyone peace, joy, and happiness, too, plus good health the whole year ahead, and after we watch the ball come down at Times Square in New York, we can all go to bed. The new year is filled with everything that is good which is the way a new year should. So end this poem about the new year, except to say, let’?s all hand onto those who are dear and near.

What does Christmas mean to you?

The impending season seems to sparkle with twinkling lights adorning homes, streets and shops. Christmas music is heard all around. The television is showing the wonderful classics such as ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’

Little eyes shine in anticipation of Santa’s arrival. The Christmas trees are decorated with the lights and tinsel, sharing space with stockings that are hung in anticipation of being filled. This special time of the year puts a glow in your heart. The Christmas tradition is one that has survived for many years.

Every country has traditions that have been in place for many years and the Christmas season is unique for each. The poems, Christmas carols or songs and the exchange of greetings through Christmas cards is a time-honored tradition in the U.S.

All season of goodwill and glad tidings, Christmas can be enjoyed in many countries and by many people no matter what the traditions include.
